Fire Maker

Starting a campfire in the woods is a rewarding experience, a skill that we are quickly losing in our technologically driven society. Introducing kids to the way of building a campfire in the woods from only the natural materials available requires critical thinking, problem solving and awareness of the environment we are in.

In this 2 hour program, we will cover the basics of fire-building in wild locations, going over fuel types, how to make kindling with a knife, how to layer a fire correctly, sourcing material and keeping the fire burning. Kids will have time to participate in all these steps as we demonstrate a fire from start to finish in a wilderness setting. We will end the day with fresh bannock cooked over the fire on a stick with a story and closing circle to incorporate all the skills learned in the day.

The program is open to kids aged 6 to 12. We also keep group size small, from 4 to 6 participants to allow for more one on one instruction and interaction. Cost is $15 / participant.

Programs are scheduled for Saturday October 7th from 3 pm to 5 pm and Saturday October 28th from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Participants must be pre-registered to attend. For more information or registration, you can send us an email at info@twistedrootsfarm.ca, message us on Facebook or call at 902-302-7005
