Way of Council

Way of Council is a talking circle practice that we use at Twisted Roots Farm for the many volunteers and apprentices we have hosted over the years. It is a way to welcome them, honor their hard work on the farm, and reflect their experiences from dedicated time spent in nature during their stay.

It is a process that we have used extensively in our nature-based work in the past and is a form of communication that we are bringing into our programming with Fire Dog Nature School.

This way of communicating helps to facilitate active listening skills, provides a safe space to express ourselves in a group, and offers ways to truly hear others in a genuine heart-centred way.

Join us on Saturday, September 30th for a workshop on this practice with a farm to table lunch. We will discuss some of the teachings as they have been passed on to us in this form of communication, ways to incorporate talking circles into our home and work lives, and how to use talking circles in a variety of settings. We will host a Fire Council at our forest site here at the farm for participants to actively participate in this talking circle format.

The workshop will start at 9 am with a hot beverage and a snack where we will cover Way of Council background, applications, different uses, and resources for further reading. We will then break into a council with participants that will conclude with lunch served in our outdoor kitchen between 12-1 pm.

This Council will be hosted around an open campfire. There will be benches available to sit on, however participants can also bring a more comfortable chair as we will be sitting for extended periods of time.

The workshop will be limited to 8 participants only. The cost of the workshop is $60/person. Please contact us for more information – email info@twistedrootsfarm.ca, phone 902-302-7005.
